The works of Eric Lanz are multimedia-based, bringing together object, human, and machine. His foucs lies on materiality, direct contact with the world, physical processes, and spaces that increasingly recede into the barground due to the use of technology.

In Lanz’s practice, mundane objects and substances unfold a poetic, sometimes surreal life of their own. They appear unexpectedly corporeal, stirring amazement and a desire for discovery. With the artist, we intervene in the flow of images and things; we are playfully drawn in, experience metamorphoses, and yet remain aware that these are also artistic devices: through the seductive parallel world of fleeting images, we are ultimately directed back to our everyday lives—perhaps now grasped or perceived differently.

A publication accompanying the exhibition—Eric Lanz. Works and Materials, published by Vexer Verlag and supported by the Stiftung Kunstfonds—offers an overview of Lanz’s oeuvre. It includes a foreword by Fritz Emslander, a dialogue between the artist and Matthias Winzen, and essays by Katja Pilisi and Laurent Adert.
